Vision 2035 - Restoring Maneuver for a Stronger Marine Corps
Global Response in the Age of Precision Munitions
In just a few days, those with concerns about FD 2030 will unveil an alternative, Vision 2035. Vision 2035 will be introduced through a series of four articles in the online pages of the Marine Corps Gazette. The Gazette will publish the four articles, one after another, from Tuesday, 29 November through Friday, 2 December. The articles are the product of the Chowder II Society, an organization devoted to advancing our Corps as the nation’s premier combined arms, air-ground-logistics, 9-1-1 force, for rapid response to crises and contingencies around the world.
Vision 2035 has been created in response to Force Design 2030. Two and a half years ago, the Marine Corps adopted a new, experimental concept to guide future combat developments. The overarching vision for the new approach was codified in Force Design 2030
In pursuit of Force Design 2030, the Marine Corps decided on a “divest to invest” option. The Marine Corps divested structure and equipment needed today, to self-fund future, unproved capabilities that will not be fully fielded until 2030 or beyond. This path poses significant risks to national security. Vision 2035 presents a more robust and much less risky alternative.
The four articles introducing Vision 2035 are:
The Preface - Who is Chowder II?
The Concerns - Fatal Flaws in FD 2030.
The Choice - Retreat to defense or retake the offense?
The Vision - Global response, today and tomorrow.
The Preface - Who is Chowder II?
The Preface introduces both the three articles and Chowder II, the group that has developed Vision 2035. The Preface will be published online in the Gazette on Tuesday 29 November 2022, with the other three articles following day by day.
The Concerns - Fatal Flaws in FD 2030.
The Concerns provides a detailed summary of concerns with Force Design 2030.
The Choice - Retreat to defense or retake the offense?
The Choice discusses the problem the Marine Corps should be trying to solve. It provides the historical and operational justification for an alternative approach.
The Vision - Global response, today and tomorrow.
Finally, The Vision introduces an alternative approach, Vision 2035. The goal of Vision 2035 is to make the Marine Corps strong today and stronger tomorrow. Vision 2035 outlines a maneuver based approach to global response in the age of precision munitions.
Compass Points has posted a PME Library of more than 70 published articles detailing serious concerns with Force Design 2030. Now, Vision 2035 will outline an alternative.
Stay tuned. Tomorrow, the Marine Corps Gazette will begin to publish the four articles introducing Vision 2035.
