No CAX at 29 Palms anymore? I just assumed that was an annual event. Just like I always assumed that a MEU would be on station in the Med 365 days a year. We need to return to robust deterrence through vigorous training and staffing.
Having practiced a minimum of battle drills at Fort Knox back in 1972, it has since dawned on me as I continue my education that a major purpose of the drill is to do something (other than be a target) while you think of something really smart to do.
The same Russians did not attack seven times. They were dead before the next ones gave it a shot. Annual rotation out of combat zones does the same thing. Similar battle, different fighters. Bernard Fall’s books make that pretty clear. I am a firm believer in the 10,000 hour concept. Sadly we rarely progress much past “familiar” in the Orientation - Familiarity-Competence- Excellence continuum. High personnel turnover and funding are the main reasons and pet projects round it out. A leadership failure.
As the official spokesperson for FD 2030, I'll gladly remind the crowd that almost a year ago, an MLR neutered 7th Marines in the MLR-TE. The MLR-TE was an exercise hosted at 29 Palms Feb-Mar 2023. No details outside of glowing PR pieces have been deemed neccessary for publication. That's all the reps neccessary.
