Beyond the demands of deployment and active mission work up, which separates the Marines from their loved ones in Christmas which we thank them for as well. There is another smaller unheralded group. Out there on every command there are officers and NCO’s walking their posts. We can all remember being young and new and taking the holiday duty so the married Marines could catch a break and be with their families on Christmas Day. The Corps never sleeps and we like it just fine that way. But how about a raised glass of something or render a hand salute to those Marines around the world that are simply walking their posts today making notation in the logbooks, taking chow in the chow hall and keeping the area neat, orderly and shipshape. “To take charge of this post and all government property in view.” Many are called, now so few answer. It is what we do.

Semper Fidelis to all Marines today.
