The COMBATANT Commander and the JTF used three MEUs during that operation (11th MEU (SOC), 15th MEU (SOC)) 13th MEU (SOC)). Today the US cannot even keep one MEU on station in the Red Sea. BTW General Hoar CENTCOM CO, General Johnson JTF Commander, General Wilhelm MARFOR CO, and General Zinni JTF Operation Chief, all Marine Corps Generals, were instrumental in the success of this operation. The Joint Service drew four aces to play this hand of Joint Force poker.
Well said. This situation is an indicator of just how poorly the USMC has been doing at the DoD poker game. The USMC has given away its Royal Flush (MAGTF), while acting as if a pair will equal another services' 4 of a kind. There are areas where the USMC is never going to have a big hand...and they will always be the suckers for trying to play up that weak hand. General Conway and Brigadier General McAbee have exposed budgeting questions that could provide the USMC a wild card play to pivot to a better hand...if it chooses.
I believe the Corps will get its first MLS in 2029 and the next one in 2030. Two more to follow in 2031. The ship is projected to last ten years. By the time ship #20 is delivered in 2039 the first one will retire bringing the total to 19. At first this sounds like a joke. 16 years from now a grand total of 19. This is nothing short of bizarre. Two typhoons and I am guessing there will be 10-12. If the Corps of Missile Men is to focus on sinking the Chinese Navy in the South China Sea they better hurry up. The Chinese might not wait.
