Japan used islands in the Aleutians too and found out they were not important to the war effort. We just didn’t deal with Kiska or Attu until we needed to eliminate the forces on them. Not exactly the same as the ambush island strategy envisioned in the 2030 plan…
“One of by land, two if by sea”?Who is standing Watch for America ? The United States Armed Forces are in the midst of a National Command Authority Crisis. Last week The POTUS was on Vacation the VPOTUS was Uniformed and on Vacation the Assistant Secretary of Defense was on Vacation and the Secretary of Defense was Unconscious and or in the ICU for an Personally Declared Secret Medical Procedure the United States of America had NO Civilian Command of Our Nuclear Forces OR any other Civilian Commander of Our Combatant Commanders (to include StratCom). No one was STANDING THE WATCH. Yes FD 2030 has put the USMC in a pickle but, it appears we Marines are only one pickle in a large DoD FUBAR Pickle Jar! May God Save Us!
To paraphrase (and perhaps update) General Patton, a permanent fixed position for a strategic weapons/Cwhatever system in the age of long range precision guided weapons is a monument to man's folly. Actually, if you make any target big enough and important enough, you can count on a foe figuring out how to reach out and touch it. It's either a matter of right sizing the potential targets via dispersing them or making them mobile.
Small isolated missile forces on islands look exactly like the Japanese island defenses in WWII. In a sense, that strategy was an island based Maginot Line. Islands were taken one by one or bypassed.
The Japanese Aegis ship has the stats of a small cruiser. It also somewhat resembles the Arsenal Ship proposed in the 80s. Maybe the USN should take a second look.

We must never forget we (the USMC) is a Naval Force (Not Navy but Naval)
