Regarding the Super Bowl , I started my boycott of the NFL when the first knee hit American soil during Our National Anthem at an NFL game. Millionaires playing for Billionaires…to hell w all of them!
History teaches us that for every technological breakthrough there is a countermeasure that renders the original technology obsolete or manageable. Military professionals study and learn from history. Those who make broad sweeping statements about future warfare without an understanding and appreciation of the past almost always end up with egg on their faces.
While I agree that “drones” are simply a new “mean” in the strategy equation I strongly disagree that Mr.Musk is exclusively a “technologist”, instead he epitomizes the American dream. He saved Free Speech w his purchase of Twitter and exposed the massive “Information Age Mockingbird Like Operation” Twitter Facebook etc were facilitating. Today he is volunteering to expose the CIA/DNC/DEEP STATE Operations via DOGE throughout the Federal Government starting w USAID. A decade ago I believe he attended a West Coast Marine Special Operations Units either Mess Night or BD Ball. He should be sought out by MCCP OR CHOWDER II. After almost 250 years, Our Marine Corps has been led astray not by “a technologist”but by Generals Berger and Smith. If you notice whenever VP Vance is seen at public events he is being escorted by what appears to be a Marine Colonel. Let’s pray the VP is not being fed FD lies. Today’s “The Merge” lays out the proposed Marine Aviation Plan for The Future more F35Cs less F35Bs…Mr Musk had zero to do w the USMC planning to buy more planes for the US Navy that fails to buy a Capable Robust Fleet of Amphibious Ships for the US Marines.
The lethality of the battlefield never really seems to change, it just gets faster and more lethal. Indeed as Jerry McAbee points out for every new weapon there is a countermeasure. Drones and cyber warfare feel like EW/ECW/ECCW etc only with different capabilities. In the course of a year Elon Musk has gone from basically a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and world’s richest man, to someone that is spending his time trying to figure out where all the money is going. He seems a person that is willing to change his mind when presented with a new set of facts. Funny how two recents CMC’s refused to listen to old facts, immediate facts and new facts and refused to change, damaging the Corps to the marrow. The DOGE hasn’t headed for the Puzzle Palace, yet. By the time they get there the algorithms currently being used will be refined, likely an entity like the pentagon that has failed 7 audits in a row, has something to be concerned about. In one sense we here at CP, have cause to worry, the DOGE and the SecDef and SecNav may conclude we are redundant and away we go. Dustbin of history. Or perhaps more likely, they will see a small elite force, highly capable in all manner of war fighting areas and conclude we are the best bang per buck and keep us around. Maybe even give the Corps the budget it needs to reconstitute the MAGTF to full articulation. Time will tell. JD Vance like Musk seems very bright, if some USMC Colonel is dumb enough to whisper a bunch of FD2030 hobucky in the VP’s ear that is up that Colonel. One senses Vice President Vance is capable of making his own judgements on the future of the Corps, which he served in. As to anthems, perhaps people who desire division and angst at a sporting event ought to look at the grainy film of the opening ceremony of the 1908 Summer Olympics in London England. They will see a large man (Martin Sheridan) carrying the American flag into the stadium past the King of England. Whilst all other country’s dipped their flag in homage to the King, Sheridan did not. When asked why he did not been a knee and dip our flag, he relied “This flag dips for no one.” Some brave guys raised a flag atop Mount Suribachi, they worked as one to get the flag up. One Corps, One Country, One Flag and One Anthem.
I feel dumber for reading the transcript of that interview. At best, BGen Reeves wasn't prepared and softballed / fanboy'd his way through it. Unjammable Starlink? A million quadcopters chasing an F35? Drone only battle? I went down the 'is Musk Tony Stark?' rabbit hole in 2017. The answer is no. He is a consummate self-promoter, more in line with PT Barnum than Edison (who, though a promoter, didn't peddle as much vaporware as Mr. Musk). Mr. Musk's musings are a melange of Big Bang Theory level comments, basic tropes, and self credulity. He does it, because he knows it sells. He says a lot of dumb stuff and people love it, because they assume he knows what he's talking about. Enjoy riding on the Hawthorne Hyperloop. His shift to the political right was a calculated move to position himself favorably. Yes, he's made some successful electric cars and we are fortunate to have Falcon 9 in lieu of any other crewed alternatives (especially since Post 1997 Boeing forgot how to be a good engineering company. which reminds me, if you know the history of Boeing, you know their problem, unlike what Musk states in the interview, is not that the CEO is or is not an Engineer). Assume he is some kind of sincere techno-genius at your own risk.
*(one add. If you think SpaceX is some revolutionary cost efficient launch company, don't research the cost per seat / lb. NASA paid for a Soyuz launch and compare it to what NASA pays SpaceX).
