As a retired infantry officer (36 years), I like the forward thinking that went into FD 2030.
Fireman did not provide convincing evidence that the nation needs a 911 firefighting force.
I for one had always thought the Corps should be a mile deep and an inch wide.
What the hell is wrong with focus?
I do not understand the smell test thought. What does your smell test consist of?
Commenters on the blog would also likely reject the track/focus the Corps took in the 30s towards amphibious warfare that took the Corps away from the small wars of the 20s.
You guys are still in the 20th century. Get on board.
Why would we take 247 years of fighting experience and traditions, only to be stumped by woke philosophies. I’ll take experience over phyl. We established a free world through our blood ,traditions and pride that continues to pass on for generations to come.
Nice job knocking down your own straw man. No one is fighting the importance of innovation, capability development, or improvement. It is this particular force design and implementation that are seen as problematic (especially with respect to on hand capability).
No one needs a USMC; we just have years of being the premier singular joint expeditionary force built on our mandate as a naval expeditionary force. That has made us very effective as crisis response either on our own, or in advance of joint follow on forces.
As I said elsewhere, the other services are more than happy to take over mission and funding. The travesty is they will do it worse than we did it, while the USMC is preoccupied with future fantasy blue water trench warfare in the Pacific.
For a chuckle, look at the logistic connector plan for living inside the WEZ…
The other services are more than happy to take up mission and funding for 911 type operations. Meanwhile, the USMC is building the stand-in force for the rebranding as the Wake Island Defence Force of the 21st century. (Additionally, it is unfortunate that the debate over the impact of implementing FD 2030 gets characterized as an argument between a) Rockapes with blackberries clinging to Garands and Sherman’s versus b) Spartan geniuses from 2035.)
Could not agree more. As a retired infantry officer I have a continual very bad feeling in regards to FD 2030. The more I read the more my gut tells me that this the absolute wrong path for the Marine Corps to be taking. To put it bluntly "it does not pass the smell test." I hope that we have not passed the point of no return!
